Abstract

The Emotional Stroop Task was used in this study to investigate a possible attentional bias to pain stimuli in two distinct groups of pain patients (No Diagnosis Group and Diagnosed Group) referred to a tertiary Pain Relief Clinic and a no pain Control Group. The No Diagnosis Group had no physical fmdings to account for their pain despite intensive investigation whereas the Diagnosed Group had clear evidence of physical pathology in keeping with their pain complaint. There were 60 participants in the study, with 20 in each group.
