Abstract

The aim of the work described in this thesis was to investigate the effects of over-expression of normal ras proteins upon lipid signalling pathways in cultured NIH-3T3 fibroblasts. The ras oncogene family has been implicated in the growth and development of a high percentage of human tumours, but despite extensive research the mechanism of action of ras is still unknown. It has been proposed that p2 proteins function in a G-protein-like manner mediating the effects of certain growth factors, by coupling their receptors to the stimulation of PIC.
