Abstract

Previous work on the equilibrium between Iron containing oxygen and molten ferrous slags has been largely concerned with pure FeO-MnO slags and silica saturated slags. Even in these limited fields complete agreement on the equilibria has not been attained. The present work was carried out to obtain further information on the above equilibria and to extend investigations to slags net saturated with silica. Iron was melted in a purified nitrogen atmosphere in slip cast magnesia crucibles under various iron-manganese-silicate slags at 1550
