Abstract

The separation of free and bound vitamin B12 was studied using different systems. Two forms of vitamin B12 and four binders were used and the separation effected by charcoal adsorption, bag dialysis, gel filtration and ultrafiltration. The results suagest that the separation of free and bound vitamin B12 is affected by the fora of vitamin B12, the nature of the binder and the method of effecting separation. Measurements of the vitamin B12 content of items of diet and meals wore made using the microbiological assay with train. The results are discussed with reference to the various aspects of vitamin B12 nutrition in men. A preliminary study, involving the freezing of gastric juice and fractionation during thawing, suggests that cryoconcentration may have en application in the concentration of intrinsic factor binder from gastric juice. Four previetusly published reports concerning One non-specific binding of cyanocobalamin in normal human saliva, Leta body vitamin B12 estimations in the live subject, the activities of various cobalamina for Murilenu and the clinical value of serum vitamin B12 estimation in jaundice, are reprinted in their entirety.
