Abstract

There is increasing evidence to suggest that most antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) have multiple mechanisms of action which may contribute to their efficacy and/or toxicity. Of particular current interest is the effects of AEDs on the excitatory and inhibitory amino acid systems regulated by glutamate and ?-aminobutyric acid (GABA), respectively.
