Abstract

This thesis consists of a critical edition of "Nuzhat al-Sultan li-Khizanat Muhammad b. Murad b. Muhammad Khan" by al-Sharif Ahmad b. Yusuf al-Husayni al-Brusawi al-Maqdisi al-Hanafi a work dealing with various aspects of Jihad; this is itself an epitome of "Mashari' al-Ashwag ila Masari al-Ushshaq wa-Muthir al-Gharam ila Dar al-Salam" by Ahmad b. Ibrahim al-Nahhas (d. 814). The edition has been made from the unique MS in the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin. The introduction consists of a description of the MS and the characteristics of the author's writing, a short biographical sketch (almost nothing is known of him), sections on the work, its contents and its place in the literature of Jihad. A bibliography of Jihad, as well as a general bibliography and full indices, is provided.
