Abstract

AM Herculis stars form a subclass of cataclysmic variables, the defining characteristic of which is that they possess a high degree of polarisation at optical frequencies. Physically they have two notable features. Firstly, the white dwarf star has a sufficiently high magnetic field (B ~ 10.
