Abstract

The present research comprises: a. the development of an arithmetical trial and error method of finding the torsional rigidity of, and the stresses due to torsion in, bars with uniform non-circular section, and circular shafts with varying radius. Other methods were investigated and were found inferior to this one. b. tests on structural sections and on hollow square sections to find the torsional rigidit, the stresses, and the effective maximum stress which mauses failure.
