Abstract

The catalytic ability of iron(III) chloride in the chlorination and hydrochlorination of hydrocarbons is well established and is of great commercial importance. Of equal importance is the dehydrochlorination of partially chlorinated ethanes, attributed to FeCl3. In this work properties of FeCl3 which are relevant to its catalytic behaviour were investigated.
