Abstract

Experiencing the Experiment of Creative Writing: A Hybrid Workbook is a textbook that invites the reader into a space for writing that focuses on hybrid and experimental forms. It is a book of both practice and pleasure that uses reading and writing exercises, a growing and evolving definition of hybrid, open space for reader participation, and questions to encourage the reader/writer. Written for students, educators, readers, and creative writers, the workbook merges together prose, poetry, theory, memoir and art, enacting the genre it teaches about, in order to create a new kind of textbook that is approachable and inspirational. The book contains easy to follow thematic chapters and close textual readings to focus in on the cutting edge of current experimental and hybrid forms, bringing the reader/writer along for a journey and asking them to participate in a collaboration of learning and creating. Experiencing the Experiment of Creative Writing: A Hybrid Workbook is a combination of both critical and creative writing that comes from years of research into the genre of hybrid and experimental forms combined with a pedagogical practice that includes teaching directly from the text. The textbook/workbook aims to create a new kind of theoretical practice for exploring the genre it enacts while ensuring that the reader/writer is at the centre of the experience.
