Abstract

A survey of the specific activities of 210Pb and 210Po in terrestrial foodstuffs from areas in England and Wales close to sources of the possible technological enhancement of natural radioactivity (TENR) has been performed. Sampling of a variety of foodstuffs important in the UK diet from areas close to coal fired power stations, metal smelting plants, a phosphate ore processing plant, a nuclear fuel reprocessing plant and an area of high natural radioactivity was undertaken. The specific activities found were compared to those from control areas to aid in the determination of the level of enhancement of 210Pb and 210Po.
