Abstract
This thesis describes the synthesis and characterisation of platinum-group metal complexes which model species believed to function as reaction intermediates or transition states. Thus, several complexes of the type [ML3S]n+ and [RhL5S]n+ (M = Rh, Pd, Pt or Ni, S = either a vacant site or a coordinated solvent molecule, n = 0 or 1) have been synthesised and characterised by spectroscopy and, where appropriate, by X-ray analysis.
