Abstract
The Pauson-Khand cyclisation is one of the most useful reactions for the formation of cyclopentenone ring systems. It is a [2 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition between an alkyne, alkene and one molecule of carbon monoxide. The reaction is mediated by dicobalt octacarbonyl. The aim was to develop a general and simple route to generating cyclopentenone ring systems utilising the Pauson-Khand cyclisation. We chose to use amines as promoters as opposed to the more commonly used amine N-oxides. An efficient route to cyclopentenone i was developed. Substrate ii was heated to 50
