Abstract
This study of the urinary tract in pregnancy and the puerperium is based on the results of six years of clinical research. I have attempted a comprehensive investigation of the subject, in the tradition described by Sir Thomas Lewis in his Harveian Oration as "a tradition that Clinical Science shall not be confined narrowly or by artificial boundaries, but shall be free to search how and where it will: a tradition which will not countenanance attempts to separate the study of health from disease, or the study of animals from that of man, or work at the bedside from that of the laboratories." For this purpose I have correlated the findings of clinical, urological, bacteriological and pathological investigations.
